Title：AC Analysis for Power Factor Correction Boost Converters : When to Use an AC or DC Source for Simulation
Abstract:
Power factor correction (PFC) boost converters are widely used in AC-DC conversion for improved power quality,
but their small-signal frequency response analysis can be challenging to understand and measure.
This tutorial provides a step-by-step guide to AC analysis techniques for PFC boost converters,
focusing on properly calculating and measuring the input/output impedance and control loop of the converter.
Based on the mathematical framework and findings from recent research, we demonstrate that for control loop and output impedance analysis,
a DC source set to the AC source’s RMS value can be used to accurately find the frequency response, significantly reducing simulation time.
However, an AC source is required to capture the correct system dynamics for input impedance analysis.
The tutorial will cover key theoretical concepts, practical implementation in SIMPLIS, and a demonstration of the simulation setup, including frequency response measurement techniques.
By the end, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of efficient simulation strategies for PFC converters, enabling faster and more effective design verification.
